We're all familiar with the coloring worksheets that are used to teach coordinate grids. The fill tool in Microsoft Excel can be used much in the same way. Instead of coloring on paper, students use the computer. Use this template file that goes along with the sheets on the left. |
5th Grade Census Database |
This ties to the 5th grade math curriculum. The information to fill the database comes from the 5th grade census document. Teachers can set up their own data collection form to go along with the database. Sample questions with instructions are included. To use this activity with students, set up the database on one computer in your classroom. Have them enter the data early in the morning or at different periods throughout the day until all students have entered their information. Make sure you save the database to your school's network so it can be pulled up anywhere. To have students answer the questions they can be taken to the computer lab. All of the students should be able to work in the database at once. If they get a "read only" error have them click ok and the database should open. |
